Here is how I modified my new messenger bag. I used to have a Manhattan Portage Pro Messenger bag. It is a good bag but after couple years, I was looking for a change. The Citizen from Chrome Industries became the alternative. It is a cool brand and a very cool bag. It has more pockets than the Manhattan and the front flap close better which reduces rain going in the bag at the corners. Also, Chrome Industries offers more integrated options such as a reflective strap through their customized bag service.
However, as highlighted in a previous post, the Citizen shoulder strap is just wrong. So I found a local artisan willing to help me modify my brand new bag. Here is the result. Now it is the perfect commuter bag. It has all the functionality of the original Citizen plus the comfort and simplicity of the Manhattan strap. I can now stop at the grocery store and have it as a regular should bag.
For users that really want the Chrome buckle, we thought about integrating the buckle in the new design. But it still remains a thought because it is heavy and noisy.
